How Red Light Cameras Work
Red light cameras are triggered by sensors embedded in the road at the stop line. When a vehicle crosses the stop line after the traffic light has turned red, the camera captures two images: one as the vehicle crosses the line and another showing it in the intersection. Many modern red light cameras also function as speed cameras.
Detection method: Induction loops or piezoelectric sensors at the stop line, combined with traffic light phase monitoring. Flash behaviour and operational settings can differ by equipment and jurisdiction.
