Speed Camera Types in Australia

Australian states and territories use six main types of speed cameras to enforce road safety laws. Each type works differently and is deployed in different situations. Understanding how they operate can help you stay informed and drive safely.

Mapped Cameras vs Approved Sites

A mapped record represents a location with usable coordinates. Victoria also publishes approved mobile and distracted-driver operating sites without exact camera coordinates; those appear as searchable road and suburb lists rather than as live map markers.

An approved site does not mean a camera is operating there now. Likewise, a marker does not show live enforcement status. Open a camera-type page to compare mapped records, official site lists and available state-level detail.
